Costa Blanca Inspection Tour

Want to know what one is like?

After we were met at the airport, we were taken to a four-star hotel and left to settle in. We were advised a representative would be along at 10.00, after breakfast, to take us on a tour of properties in the area. We started our tour in the region of Murcia where we saw Punta Cormorán. This was sitting right on the Mar Menor, a sheltered and protected sea that is even warmer than the Mediterranean. We looked around the sandy Playa del Pudrimiel and this nine-storey seafront apartment block with direct access to the beach. There are one, two and three bedroom apartments here, all with glass-covered garages. There are extensive green surroundings here complete with swimming pools for adults and children and a solarium, all within easy reach of La Manga’s Gran Via.

From here we drove toward Torrevieja, a town that offers hospitals, doctors, a massive Carrefour supermarket and a good shopping centre: Everything you need to make life easier when you live abroad. After an ice cream at Ramon Sirvent, we hugged the beachfront until we found Las Atalayas de Aldea del Mar. There is something about the quality of this development that will take your breath away. The small squares, delightful vistas; the wooden beams across the ceilings and lattice windows conspire to create a vision of luxury. Two or three bedroom apartments, as well as three or four bedroom attic apartments all have Airzone intelligent air-conditioning fitted to allow you to regulate the temperature in each room. And all the rooms boast magnificent views!

Driving through the sunshine city of Alicante, it’s not hard to see what attracts so many Spanish, particularly from Madrid, to this part of the world. After all, it is only an approximately €60 train ride away. The busy streets of Alicante, in the shadow of its famous castle harbour glamorous shops, an old town, a marina and even a beach. Not bad for a city! It was here we see a resale property, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms; walking distance to the city centre for only €60.000!

Just outside Alicante and its airport is the town of Santa Pola where we were treated to a glimpse of our future: The Santa Pola Life Resort. With gym, hydro baths, treatments in the health centre and bikes left around for residents to pick up and use, there is feeling of easy access to a healthy lifestyle. The terracotta villas lining the narrow streets promote a feeling of being part of a village community without having your privacy invaded. A truly four star resort!

It’s midday. It’s hot. The aircon is on in the car and we’re just outside Benidorm. The road’s climbing. We are already high enough up to enjoy panoramic views over the city. Between the mountains and the sparkling sea, we’ve passed the town of Finestrat with its narrow streets and country market. Here is Sierra Cortina, and this is stunning! Live here in any of the villas, townhouses or apartments and you automatically get access to a sports and leisure facility. The famous Terra Mitica amusement park is only 10 minutes away, and access to Alicante’s El Altet airport takes no time at all on the A-7 motorway.

From here we drive down into the kiss-me-quick, pink rock city of Benidorm. But don’t let your opinion be addled by what you’ve seen on TV, it grows on you. If you want a place to let your hair down or teach you to stop taking life so seriously: Benidorm is it! Benidorm Vida & Golf overlooks Poniente beach, right next to a 9-hole golf course. This ‘Life Resort’, like the one we’d seen at Santa Pola, has a medical centre, both indoor and outdoor pools, reception, social club, restaurant, café, library, meeting and function rooms for residents, laundry, beauty salon and much more. There were 80 apartments here with one or two bedrooms which would be ideal to rent out and handy for this popular seaside resort. The views over the golf course and sea are truly spectacular. But there was something more stunning yet to come…

Driving along to Benidorm’s Levante beach and parking outside Torre Lúgano you can’t help noticing an imposing skyscraper with a backdrop of the majestic Sierra Gelada. Truly a sight to behold! This is the highest building in the city. 42 floors and panoramic views over Benidorm, there are five different models to choose from with luxury apartments of one, two or three bedrooms. There is plenty of space and light: 142m2 and large terraces. A spectacular garden of 10,700m2 with swimming pool, children’s area and large green area outside for residents to enjoy. The panoramic lift will impress everyone!

Torre Lúgano

Far from being eager to leave Benidorm, we had a wonderful lunch overlooking the ocean before driving up to Polop de la Marina, 17 kilometres outside the rather posh coastal town of Altea. Cumbre de las Jaras Habitat was on the way to the Sierra de Aitana mountains with a selection of townhouses and semi-detached houses with two and three bedrooms. These houses have very large terraces and the gardens are very private. There is some amazing attention to detail in these houses and the homes are equipped with a pre-installed fireplace, boiler, central heating system, interior gas pipes, alarm and home automation system. There are swimming pools, a 24-hour security system, leisure and sport facility and ample gardened areas.

Only ten minutes outside Benidorm we are in a quiet spot at the foot of El Ponoch at La Marina Baixa in the Sierra de Aitana mountains. This is Cumbre de Las Jaras Habitat, 500 homes with green areas, swimming pools and a social club.

We finished our tour driving further north to a development called Mirador del Paradiso to see villas facing the sea in the Bèrnia mountain range, we are on a very rocky part of the coast where the mountains plunge into the sea leaving small, clean, rocky coves with pleasure boats bobbing up and down on the sparkling water. The views here over the sea are remarkable with plots here from 800m2.
